welcome to NC! I'm in Conover, about 3 hours away. Yep, R/E investing is the way to go! You'll do fine, just stick with it. This is a great forum and the people are absolutely awesome. The resources are great too.
As to the best entity, for standard buy and hold's go with an LLC in a partnership format. For quick flips, like wholesaling, go with an LLC but in an S-Corp format. You will avoid some of the hit from the Self-Employment Tax. I learned through some attorneys and CPA's that as a wholesaler, you are considered a Dealer for status purposes to the IRS. Tax treatment is different; it's at your individual tax rate, whatever that is for you. For now, depending what Obama does, buy and holds are taxed at the 15% cap gains tax rate (assuming you hold for 1 year or more). Bottom line, I learned to keep the 2 types of deals in separate LLC's; easier for the IRS to see and for accounting purposes.
