The International Domestic Violence Memorial, with potential co-developers, proposes to develop the International Domestic Violence Memorial Museum & Education Center a mixed-use, affordable, sustainable housing project in New York City, NY for all victims of domestic violence.
The primary goal of the project is to incorporate features to encourage healing, healthy living, while providing innovative and high quality care for residents. The 260-unit project will provide a range of affordable housing opportunities, including rental and ownership for victims of varying household incomes and compositions.
The project shall consist of eleven distinct areas – an affordable housing high rise, retail/commercial units (first and secondary levels), business incubator project, job training & employment center, level one trauma center, museum, community gardens, daycare center (for residents), conference area, and robotic parking garage.
The project is being designed to meet or exceed LEED standards for environmentally responsible and energy efficient design. Smart material choices, including non-toxic paints and rapidly renewable wood products, will improve the air quality for residents and conserve natural resources.

Hi Nasrin,
Not sure how to go about buying the property or the apartments or a non profit. My numbers have always focused on doing a deal that works in the bottom line. You have a heart for helping people so there has to be a way. The challenge is to show to a bank or an investor how they can get there money back from your purchase and still create an environment to help out victims of domestic abuse.
I think you can start by taking a trip to city hall in your local government, as well as state and federal funding, and local churches and houses of worship to see what is available. This will be a lot of work, but you will find people who can connect you to the right resources. It's not going to be easy - but nothing worthwhile ever is.
Out here we have similar non-profit homes called "Our Father's House". Maybe you can Google them to find out more about setting up such a set up in your community too? Keep us posted, and keep asking questions.
