So you’ve got your own business and you are solely responsible for its success or failure. What strategies can you use to start branching out and reaching others? I’d say one of the best ways to branch out to others is through social media. I know most people are already saying “Duh” right now, but it goes well beyond just having a Facebook account. It goes further than just spouting the same daily wall posts that others have seen you reiterate over and over. It comes down to building relationships among your colleagues, and forming coops in those professional circles.
Determining your circles. Your first step to marketing your specific niche within your industry is determining what industries best work as extensions of yours. For example, as a wholesale investor specific areas within my industry would be realtors, lenders, and title companies. Realtors would of course help in locating discounted properties REO related, similar to those like the foreclosures Houston and other metropolitan areas are offering. Hard money lenders and mortgage brokers would be ideal for setting up a nice package for other investors who are interested in being assigned property contracts from my company. These lenders would provide financing for both short and long term investment properties. Of course title companies would handle the title and escrow specifics of the property sale.
Forming your circles. So what’s the one thing all of our functions have in common in the real estate industry? We all work in conjunction with one another without actually conflicting with each other. So how does this become useful to actually market your business? I’m glad you asked! One of the best features of Facebook is the ability to “Like and Share” other people’s post. When you “Like and Share” another person’s post guess what happens? Every one of your friends can now see this post. You have now succeeded in leveraging your message to hundreds or even thousands of more eyes than you had access to by yourself. Moreover, since the majority of people on my friends list are industry related, chances are the majority of people on their friends list are industry related. This is the exact target market I am looking to reach!
Determining your campaigns. Well then, what’s a good strategy to peak these industry related people’s attention? How about a written or video blog post! Find a topic you know would be hot and give it a killer headline that you know will draw people’s attention. Create a Facebook fan page and use that as the link for them to view your article or video. At the end of the post make sure to leave a call to action by telling them to hit the “Like and Share” button on your fan page as well as a bio with your specific info and link. Guess what, now their hundreds or thousands of friends will see that this particular individual liked your post and will have the opportunity to click the link as well, and round and round the circle goes. By working in conjunction with the circles of industry related colleagues in your industry you can promote each other’s links and ads without conflicting with your own interests.
Get everyone on the same page. Of course, you will have those in your industry who always want you to promote their business but selfishly never take the time to like yours. Try sharing the ad links your friends share. You would be surprised how far helping out your fellow colleagues will go. If you feel that your colleagues take advantage of your generosity by never sharing your post when you always share theirs, drop the link to this article on their wall and tell them it has some really good tips to help their business get ahead (hint hint). Oh and by the way, be sure to hit “Like and Share” and share this if you liked it!
