As more and more homeowners are learning most banks don't seem to care about you once the foreclosure process has begun. You're the greatest customer in the world as long as you're paying them on time. As soon as that ends no matter what the reason you become the enemy. Banks tend to take a stern approach to a defaulting borrower no matter what the cause of the delinquency. So the question begs to be asked should you call your bank if you get into financial trouble. The answer is.YES!
Though you may find the conversation very difficult to have it is important to contact your bank and begin talking with them about solutions as early as possible. . it is important to note you will find both great people to talk with and in some cases horrible people to talk with inside the same bank. The important this is that you open the lines of communication and let them know what is going on. Also, the sooner you contact your bank the sooner you can get to work solving your problem.
Let the person that you're dealing with know what caused your problem and how you're planning to resolve it. Or how you have resolved it. Ask them what options they might have that will help you. When you call make sure to take down the name of each person that you speak with and find out as much as you can about them and how they are identified(employee #,Badge#,etc). This will be important if you need to reference the call at a later date. Though at times it maybe difficult always remain courteous to the person that you're speaking with. If you find them too hard to deal with. Hang up and call back you might get a better person on the next try. Explain your story to the new person and see if it produces a different result. If at all possible ask the person your speaking with if they have a direct extension or if you can call them back if you find them courteous and helpful.
If you still find it simply too difficult have a family member that you trust to take the call with you. You might also consider speaking with a foreclosure specialist in your area and giving them authorization to speak to the bank on your behalf or with you. The faster you do it the better you'll feel and the quicker you can begin to move on towards the solution.
