We have all at some point or another wondered if what we were doing or what we had just done was really worth it. If we try to think about this before any action we can save ourselves a lot of guilt and regret. This applies to all matters of life. Who we spend our time with, what we spend our time doing, and what we spend our time thinking about. If in the end it's not worth it we have just wasted the most precious thing we have to give, our time. I don't know about anyone else, but I like to feel accomplished, healthy and happy at the end of my day. It is so easy to get distracted by everything going on around us that we lose focus on the really important stuff. I work from home right now and I have 3 cute as can be cats that can easily draw my attention to them when I would so much rather not be making those difficult phone calls or whatever other task I may be doing at the time. After I look up at the clock 45 mins later and feel like crap for wasting all that time I wonder was it really worth it? Now for the rest of the night I am upset with myself because I was supposed to get these things accomplished and I didn't so my work for tomorrow has just been doubled. It seems to have this downward spiraling effect on everything thereafter. If I just would have thought to myself to begin with that while those cats really are so adorable getting these calls made will really help my business and I will be well on my way to increasing my knowledge and my bank account. And guess what I am pretty sure those cats will be there acting just as cute once business hours are over and I feel great about what my day has become. The cats are just my example because it's what I have in front of me right now, but it can be anything that takes us away from what we should be doing to waste time on something we can do later when the time is appropriate. This applies to every matter in our lives whether it's business, pleasure, weight loss, religion, whatever. We do also need to remember though that times will come where we waste time and have to get back on track. Don't beat yourself up about it! Guess what you're doing then? Yep, you guessed it making it worse because now you're wasting time thinking about what you should have done better instead of moving on and doing something productive to make up for it. Next time just think it through for a minute before you let yourself get distracted and make sure that it's really worth it! Sometimes you may even find that letting yourself get distracted for just a minute may be worth it to you. If it is then give yourself an allotted amount of time to be distracted and then get back to work! As long as you are okay with the feelings you have afterward and you can be happy at the end of your day go for it! So let's all go after what we want and make sure that everything we do with the precious moments of time we have are spent on things that are worth it!
