So I've been reading a book by John C. Maxwell called "Success 101" What every leader needs to know. If you think that real estate doesn't require you to be a leader, then you are in the wrong business. At the minimum, you have to be a leader to yourself. You have to motivate yourself, push yourself, and dedicate yourself to being successful.
I'm not saying you have to have the leadership qualities a kin to Patton or Donald Trump, but you do have to lead. So you're wondering what this has to do with failure? I'll tell you. You can't be successful without making mistakes. Most of us know this, but what most of us don't know is how to fail properly. What???? Fail properly? That's right, there are right and wrong ways to fail. Here are a few rules on what failing really means. This is from the book.
Rule #1 you will learn lessons.
Rule #2 there are no mistakes--only lessons.
Rule #3 A lessons is repeated until it is learned. <---This is huge and is true for so many.
Rule #4 If you don't learn the easy lessons, they get harder. (Pain is the only way the universe gets your attention.)
Rule #5 you’ll know you've learned a lesson when your actions change.
Now that we know the rules, let me tell you what failure is not.
Failure is not avoidable
It's not an event
It's not objective
It's not the enemy
It's not irreversible
It's not a stigma
and lastly it's not final.
Embrace failure for what it is and use it to grow yourself and your business. Pick up this short little book to get some great insight on how to be a success.
Happy Investing,
B
