Hello!

Well ... Tuesday, December 2, 2008, I will proceed to the courthouse to get some information to get started.

I know I have A LOT of footwork to do, but I'm not afraid of doing it.  I'm looking forward to doing something new!  One step at a time ...

I will emphasize the steps as I do them.  It makes it easier for someone else to learn how to do this.

  Any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks!

Sylvia

I'm sorry I missed your call. I did try to call you back. Call again anytime. I see the people who should cherish their job the most are the most miserable. I think those same ladies work in every courthouse in the nation. AMAZING!

My first time at the courthouse, I made an appointment with the Judge and his assistant and told them exactly what I was doing. His assistant took me to the records dept and introduced me to the witches ...I mean "ladies" and showed them how to get me what I was looking for. Now when I (or my wife) walk in they ask where we left off and how many do we want. It is all about relationship building. (They still mumble alittle)

BTW... Your local newspaper probably goes there once a week for info in those same files. It is public info.

I forgot to mention that with Estate sales ... you should go to the court house and look at the Probate files.  These are Public Information, but I encountered 4 ladies in charge, that told me they could only give me information on certain individuals or case numbers ... that's BS. I got really mad, but decided to do something about it.  So now I will speak with a few probate lawyers tomorrow.  I want to make sure no laws have changed to prevent me from accessing them in mass amounts.  I also printed out a copy of the the Freedom of Information Act for Connecticut.  Then I'm going back there on Thursday ...

I am focusing on Estate Sales.  It is something  I have always been interested in.  From what I understand, there are many more of them than there are foreclosures.

John, I will take your advice and wait until January.  I will still continue to read, go to seminar/webinars, and talk with educated and experienced people such as yourself.  Besides ... I got invited to a meeting by Creia (Connecticut Real Estate Investors Association) to participate in their meeting.  I will be able to network with lawyers, other attorneys, other REI's and other people as well.

The course I ordered was Preston Ely's "Probates by Preston".  It normally sells for over $2,000 and I got it for $297.  That was one deal I wasn't passing up.

Thanks!

Why did you go to the court house today?  What aspect of REI are you going to focus on?  What is your strategy to make money?

Hi Chuck!

Thanks for the information!  I just called you.  I would like to "pick your brain" if I may?

  Have a great day!

I use Preston's system. Be persistent at the Courthouse. They may not understand what you're looking for. It's simple...You want to look at ALL the probate files that will already have the assets listed. You should probably start with files that are 6 months old. Take about 50 of them. Look through and find the RE. It won't take you more than a half dozen files to figure out where to look every time to speed up your process. Many files will have nothing or no RE. Move to the next one. If you are getting pretty much empty files then you are too recent. Go back in time until you are getting files with lots of info. Don't go back too far because the the further back the more likely the estate may have already sold the prop.
