How to Use This Book
This book is designed to introduce the first-time or inexperienced investor to the
‘ins and outs’ of real estate investing using 401(k)s, IRAs and other qualified
retirement plans. The intended audience is basically anyone who wants to learn
how to make sensible but ‘outside of the box’ investment decisions with respect
to their retirement plans. The book has been written such that it shall serve as
the first stepping-stone for those who don’t necessarily know where to start.
In a strange way, the purpose of this book actually relates to you, varying in
accordance with your objectives and goals. You may already know of a book
called “The Secret”. If you haven’t heard of it yet, then fret not. What you need to
know is that in 1910, a man named Wallace D. Wattles published a book called
“The Science of Getting Rich”. The bulk of this book discussed a concept called
the law of attraction, perhaps the most fundamental and powerful principles
known to man. What we now call “The Secret” is nothing more complicated that
an explanation of the law of attraction and Wattles’ ideas. The law of attraction is
a principle that seems to affect everything and everyone one way or another. It’s
a very simple idea that ‘like attracts like’ and if we concentrate our energies
properly, we are able draw into our lives whatever we want. We thus attract
things into our life based on what we are thinking about and what we feel.
A large number of people have turned their lives around just by accepting
responsibility for their actions through first accepting the role that the law of
attraction plays in their lives. One of the most profound steps a person can take
to achieve his goals is to act in this way. When your goal is to make money
through commercial real estate investment, you are far more likely to achieve this
goal if you are able to accept the positive side of your attempts. Success can
never be guaranteed, but if you are determined enough to succeed at your longterm
goal, whether your goal is to make money, establish a successful business,
or even just get out of debt, you will succeed eventually.
The purpose of this book is to help anyone interested in investing in real estate,
to establish themselves and carry through a successful money-making
transaction using their retirement savings. Based on your first deal, you can
determine whether or not the industry is for you, as well as whether or not you
are interested enough to use real estate as your principle investment for
retirement and the securing of your financial future.
If real estate is the investment option for you, this book will serve as a reference
to help you stay on track and work to solve any problems you might face later on.
The best way to use this book is to read it through from start to finish at least
once. Ideally, you should read it through once without taking notes and without
trying too hard to remember many of the finer points.
Once you’ve read through the book, allow yourself some time to absorb the
information. When you’ve mastered the basic principles of real estate investing
using your retirement plan, set aside time to read the book through a second
time. This time around take notes on each chapter and outline any of the key
ideas that strike you as being particularly significant.
