I have been gone for a while and hope everyone has been doing great.

I know you miss my quotes and blogs but don’t worry I have not forgotten you.  In fact I just read a quote I liked earlier today and happen to have time to write about it.

This quote is from a man who is a master motivator and one of the greatest coaches in college basketball history.

Let us see if you can figure who he is…. He has lead the University of California at Los Angeles to a record 10 NCAA championships. He was also the only person that I know of to be named to the Basket ball hall of Fame as both a player and a coach.

If you haven’t guessed his name, it is John Wooden.

He also served in World War II and was the head of the basketball coach and athletic director at Indiana State Teachers College. So you will see why I chose him for one of his great quotes.

“Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.”

At first it may seem a bit confusing and sound strange when read out loud, but if you really look and understand what he really meant… it all starts to fall in place and make sense.

Well as before I usually and always write about these great quotes and tell how it can benefit us both in the real world and the world we like to make money in… real estate!

So lets see if I am a bit rusty or still got it in me…
What John is trying to say is how each and everyone looks at a situation. If you look at the situation in a good way… well guess what, it will turn out good. If you look at all the negatives in a situation, you will get negative results.

I remember the other day that this happened to me. I guess this is common sense to me because I turned a bad situation, from the owner’s point of view, to a good situation in my point of view. And I believe we all do… hence the reason why we can make an “ugly houses” into a gold mine for us.

It started with a call from a distressed owner who had a house that was not meeting code and was ready to be torn down. The owner needed some money to get out of another pretty stressful situation. He gave me the specifics of the house (what he owed, condition, location, any liens, etc…) and we came up with a time to meet so I can look further into it.

I almost regretted asking him what his situation was, the situation with the house, and what he wanted out of the whole deal if one was possible. He gave me an ear full. Yes indeed his situation was stressful and in dire need of both cash and attention.

He also told me that another investor looked at the property and situation and said that nothing could be done!!   I immediately saw their error. They only listened and looked at the surface of the situation. They never investigated the situation further or even contacted code about any alternatives!!

It was like they heard the story, saw the property, gave their answer, and left!

But I always try to see the positive in any situation. My mind starts to work like a clock and come up with many plans and answers. Well I found several and to make a long story short it took about several days talking with code, waiting patiently, getting some paperwork done, and finally meeting some demands from code to creating a win win situation for all parties involved.

Code was happy, the owner was both amazed and thankful, and I walked away with money in the bank.

So to make out what John was saying… never look at a situation from the surface, wait to get all the facts, listen to all sides of the situation,  and make sure you are thinking positive straight from the start.

If you do this for all your deals and in life you will always be able to see the bigger picture, come up with multiply solutions, and most importantly always come out on top. Heck even if you don’t get the deal you will at least earn the respect of others for trying.

I hope this blog/quote was something you can all learn from and comment on.

As always make sure to implement it in what you do and feel free to grade it and let me know what you think about it.

Until next time,
Chao
