Hello everyone,
I know it has been quite a while since I have written and posted a quote, but have no fear because I am here.
This quote is from our 34th president and supreme commander of the Allied forces during WWII.
Can you guess who it is?
Okay I wont have you dust out your old history books or bribe your kids for the answer so this person I am talking about is none other than, Dwight Eisenhower.
Okay let us break this down a bit and how it not only matters in life but matters in real estate as well.
Everyone wants to be a leader, or I do hope so. If you want to be successful in anything you have to be a leader in something… so if you think becoming a leader is not in your success plan… think again.
You have to lead someone to make your business flourish. You will be the one telling someone else what to do and what not to do, and if you think about it, this is leading.
Now what Eisenhower was talking about when he says “you don’t lead by hitting people over the head…” he means you cant force anyone to follow you.
If they want to follow you they will. In order to have someone to follow you, you have to have a cause that they believe in and they can trust you. I really believe that everything eventually leads to trust. So how can you have someone trust you?
Be honest with them, don’t leave anything out. Now as investors we cant foresee everything or know everything at once so when I say leave nothing out of course that means what you know currently. There are also times that you can leave a thing or two out that the other person will never understand and wont affect them, but that’s something totally different.
But we are moving off subject here. In reality there is not much else to say about the quote given to us by our 34th president and commander. Just remember that you cant force anyone to do anything. And if for some reason you are able to do so whether through bribery, force, lie, or any other matter, their performance or ability to follow what you are trying to accomplish will not be their best performance. It can also lead to failure on your part bringing down your own business.
Talk to anyone who has been in the real estate business and you will hear many stories of “successful” real estate investors who has forced, bribed, or lied to sellers and ended up going to jail! So although “beating” someone to follow you MAY cause short success and a taste of leadership, in the long run it is never a good outcome.
I am also using this quote because unfortunately someone tried to get a taste of leadership and not only failed, but it affected a good friend of mine. It turned out that this investor had lied to my friend and ended up using the money, on a lease to own transaction, that my friend was paying him for his/her own personal endeavors and not to pay the bank.
Now I wouldn’t say it was my friends fault since he/she had no clue what the right way to go about this transaction was, and sadly I hadn’t known about this until it was too late. Anyways I was made aware of the actual transaction when my friend got a letter in the mail asking them to move out within 30 days due to the house being foreclosed!!!
Now he/she has to look for an apartment since they wasted their money, not going to get the deposit or anything back that they paid. I tried contacting the owner and tracking him/her down but at this point the house was already bought back by the bank so nothing else to do.
However if you have one last trick up your sleeve you can give me I sure would like to hear it.
But that was that and all I am saying is if you want to be successful you have to become a leader of someone. To become a leader you have to have followers and to have those you have to have people that believe in what you do and trust you.
Well gotta run, hope you enjoyed the quote and my blog. As always read it, comment on it, grade it, and most of all implement it.
Till next time, this is Livy signing out…
