Hi everyone,
I attended my first REIC meeting last night here in NYC and have to say that I got a lot out of it. I met many folks just getting into the biz like me, as well as seasoned professionals already estatblished in the business; other investors, property managers, lawyers, mortgage bankers, REO reps, et al.
The guest speaker was JT Foxx, one of the most successful young up and coming residential real estate investors in the country. He spoke about how he got into the biz (motivated by his parents' foreclosure in the '90s and seeing a late night infomercial in college) and his take on how to make it in this business. Of course their was a sale pitch at the end for his stacks of books and audio cds. None of it was really a surprise - know how to properly network, connecting with victims of foreclosure on an emotional level, seperate yourself from other investors by making your 30 second sales pitch stand out from the others. But what I really sunk in for me was just being in a room with other motivated rookies and vets alike wanting to succeed in such a dynamic business without having to answer to anyone. You are your own boss.
I know this is not a lot of useful information for anyone out there, but I just wanted to pass thia along and put what I feel down on paper.
There is no better time to start than right now
Cheers
Nick
