I am seeking recommendations for software for a windows or linux operating system that is similar to HP or Ti's hand held calculators.  I am not sure if a spreadsheet would be adequate.

I use a HP 12c calculator. It would not be hard to create a spreadsheet. The formula you need is one of the built in functions in Excel. I have used it before but I still like the calculator as it is more portable. John Corey
