It doesn't seem like it's only been 5 days into this rehab (not counting the weekend). Today turned into an interesting day!
830am: Tina and Dean are here. I heard the car door shut and rolled over to go back to sleep! But of course, I know better than that and got up to get ready and get to work.
915am: I'm ready to roll, after taking care of a house that I've owned for about 4 years now that my county decided -all the sudden- is in a flood zone and I have to have insurance on it. I went through 2-3 direct hurricanes to our county and we didn't flood, but all the sudden.... it's in the flood area! (go figure... someone wants $500.00 from me).
I get down to the apartment and the hammer is flying! They have already framed up the ceiling in the bedroom! He was putting in a new vinyl double hung window in the bedroom, too. They move FAST! I check out my priming trim job I did the night before, since it poured down raining 1/2 the night. But it looked just fine!
We discuss which window works best (I had bought 2 different kinds to see which one was better) and knew NOW which ones to buy. (wow, they happen to be the lesser priced ones!!). Then, I started sanding one side of the exterior wall down before priming the T-11 siding. Before I sanded, I went ahead and put my new coat of trim paint on the trim to see if I liked the color. It turned out great.
By 1pm, it HAD to be in the triple digits again. The humidity was horrible. I ran up to the house to make a picture of ice tea and brought down some ice and tea. Everyone was happy. We brainstormed a little to decide (at this point in the ball game) to turn this one bedroom apartment into a 2 bedroom apartment! Big change! But it makes sense and it works. The living room and kitchen will now be one area together. This just utilizes the space and just raised the rental income. They quoted me $400.00 labor fee to do this job. This includes taking down a centerblock wall and framing up the bedroom, building a closet and of course, laying the carpet, etc (as was before). Lucky for me, I had found that free carpet roll and it fits into this new bedroom.. (yea!).
Within a few hours, the 2nd bedroom was framed part way. I had to leave for the dentist, and I guess that was my break for the day.
3-4pm at the dentist (joy oh joy).
430pm I'm in Pittsboro at Lowes buying the new windows and meeting my son up there with the trailer, since he JUST got off his job 5 miles from the Lowes. (I have to plan this out all the time to save gas!!). I bought windows, 2x4's, sheetrock and left them loading it while I raced over to the Habitat Store before they closed. I ran in, found a pre-hung door for $5.00 and two closet doors - almost new for $6.00 and left for them to pick it all up within 15 minutes of closing time. They made it!
They beat me home and unloaded it all and called it a day. Once I got home, I took his trailer and filled it full of trash from today's rehab and primed the wall, since it was now much cooler and in the shade! I just used primer from the Habitat Store which cost me $1.00 per gallon, even though one was white and another grey and one brown... just mixed all the cans together for a WILD color. I think people will be turning up their noses at the color as they pass by, but by tomorrow evening, the true color will be there for all to enjoy!!!!!!!! I worked till dark and called it a day too!
(well, except here it is midnight and I still have to log in my receipts for the day!).

I am enjoying reading your blogs. You are a true DYI example. I cant figure out how you can find anything at habitat. I have been 10+ times and found almost nothing. Your local Habitat must be nice.
