I'm going to keep a record of how my rehabs go, a diary type blog. If you want to keep up with it, feel free to comment and grade to encourage me to write!!! (Especially when I'm dog tired as I am tonight).
Today was day one on the job (I'll post pictures). My team consist of husband and wife, (Dean and Tina) -- I met off www.craigslist.com, my son and his roommate. Shane and Garrett- both 17 years old, and my 3 year old Danny and myself (we'll skip the age on that one).
9am. Everyone meets and we bang on the boys doors until they come dragging butt to the door. Make plans and we're off.
915am. Tina sweeps out all the spiders and webs so we can WALK through the apartment! (most important). Dean and Garret start ripping out the ceilings and tearing off walls. They also start ripping up carpet.
The same time, Shane is off to borrow a trailer since NO ONE has a truck (mine is STILL in the shop) and I catch up to him to find him looking for a 2" ball. After wrestling the ball off the back of an old pickup in the junk yard (in the pouring down rain), we hook up the trailer and off. Shane has a fractored back from a dirt bike injury last week, so momma is on his case every second to make sure he's not doing too much.
1030am Back at the house to find Lowes with my 20 sheets of sheetrock (yep, in the pouring rain), we unload it and bring it in to a safe place. The apartment is already gutted partly and the boys start loading up the trash.
11am. Danny and I are off to find the treasures at Habitat and guess what I found? This is what $315.50 bought me..
*almost new "L" shaped base cabinets (oak), with a lazy susan corner, cool pull out drawers..
* 5 different pieces of light oak base cabinets.
* 3 pieces of countertop with L shape already put in and splash gaurds
* 2 LARGE corner cabinets for the kitchen above the lazy susan corner
* 3 boxes of 6" - 25 feet of air conditioning duct work
* 2 exterior doors with peep holes- medal with deadbolt and locks (of course, no key)
*a hummingbird feeder
*ruler with the ABC's in it (guess who for).
* one pre-hung interior door,
* 3 bags of insulation
* 2 coffee cans of nails
* 1 box of concrete nails,
*2 peppermint patties!!!!
3pm. Had to take Danny to the dentist for a possible chipped tooth. Spent $20.00 there and they couldn't even get him to open his mouth for them. So, don't know if it's chipped or not.
330pm: Back at the apartment. The boys have been to the dump 3 times and I haul them over to Habitat to pick up my treasures! I go with them to make sure nothing is damaged
Dean and Tina have gone for the day and the apartment is completely gutted. Only thing standing is the concrete blocks. Each wall is concrete.
4pm. Loading up all the goodies, and I head over to Lowes while the boys take one load to the apartment. I have to buy more insulation, cement leveler, and other stuff.
5pm. Meet the boys back at the Habitat to finish up the loading, treat them to a full tank of gas and dinner. They go home to unload and call it a day. (that don't seem to consider that part pay... hmm).
630pm. I go to the OLD house where I used to live and pack as many tools and 2x4's that I can find around the house (small ones that will fit in my car) and bring them back.
I'll post pictures as soon as I remember to buy batteries next time out (which is 9am in the morning for long 2x4's!).

Wish I could get that much done in a day !
My crew is me and three little ones, 10,6, and 3 yrs old. But the next one I think will move faster.
