I'm With Buffett!

REI Fellows,

In a recent blog I made mention of this article from Feb 7; word's from the 2d wealthiest man in America, the legendary Warren Buffett. Completely self-made, it's worth noting that last year he decided to give ten's of billions away to the Gates Foundation. Not only does all of Wall Street hang onto Buffett's every cogent word of advice, but heads of state, financial experts and businessmen worldwide covet his mentorship. The markets will react.

Once a strong advocate of government, please note how he clearly opines that the federal government should focus national attention elsewhere --... continue reading >>

A Storm Cloud Silver Lining?

Much of it reminds me of all the press on the war – only the negative is reported. Daily I watch or read any number of financial news forums – only to find the same old stuff. I can only presume that what I am constantly seeking is that initial indicator of clear skies and the return of robust markets…

Okay, so let me get this straight -- now we have the Mayor of Baltimore suing Wells Fargo Bank on claims of “reverse red lining” or discriminatory loan practices and there are even rumors of the FBI investigating 10-15 companies... continue reading >>

Why Real Estate is IDEAL!

If you think real estate investing is only about finding properties with positive cash flows, take a few moments and consider the following advantages.

I – Income. In many parts of America, you can still find very affordable real estate that cash flow well after mortgage payments and all expenses are paid. We work in DC, but invest in Central Texas. Over the past 14 years we have purchased various types of properties (SFH, duplexes and 4-plexes), but we have focused on targeting and paying down single mortgages at a time, which ultimately leads to exponential returns and long-term income.... continue reading >>

Loser for Life

All,

Proud to say, I confess to being a big loser. Before I get to the point, please allow me to first share a few experiences.

Life Lesson #1. In the mid-80s, I was in college and working at a branch bank in SE Kansas when one of my brothers called over from the Wal-Mart to inform me, “Get over here...he’s here”. My manager, Kaye, afforded me a quick break to run across the street, where I had the life opportunity to see Sam Walton. Forever ingrained in my memory, I followed the “pack” as Mr. Walton walked through... continue reading >>

Terminating PMI

REI BLOGrs,

Here is some good information that I researched several months ago in order to successfully cancel the PMI on one of my properties. Hope some of you find this helpful. From my past experience, you can expect to pay around $50-60 per $100k in PMI.

Many home buyers find it difficult to provide the required 20% down payment and are forced to pay private mortgage insurance, or PMI, in order to buy a home. Private mortgage insurance solves the down payment problem but creates another two: it increases monthly payments and on... continue reading >>

LLC or Umbrella Insurance?

Hey Guys, I've only been a member for a short time, but I truly enjoy the tools, educational products and people on REI. Thanks and congratulations to Colin et al for providing such a useful and intriguing venue. As I've surfed through the various nooks and crannies of the site, I am surprised to have yet to encounter anything in regards to umbrella insurance policies -- as a means of reducing liability risk while owning numerous investment properties. First and foremost, I am NOT a insurance agent nor a lawyer or legal professional -- rather I share my personal experience... continue reading >>
