About Me
University degree in computer science with a number of years working for both manufactures of technology and end user companies (telcos, banks, insurance companies). Most recently my technology career has focused on the banking sector (retail and investment banks)
I stated investing after reading a book, taking a 2 day seminar and then buying a house 'Nothing Down' the following day. That was in CA and it was in 1983 so some time ago. I have been an active investor ever since.
I enjoy offering advice to others. It is a great way to give back and it helps me stay in touch with what is going on in the marketplace. Generally, RE investors are rather generous with their time. I have certainly benefited from friendly advice over the years. Call it pay back time for me and a fun way to meet new people who are making it happen.
Real Estate Experience
Multiple states in the US and multiple countries. Current portfolio is focused on US and the UK. The US being the better opportunity given present trends.
I started investing in 1983. My focus is residential, normally 1-4 unit stick built homes. I buy off-plan (pre-construction condos) and I buy older homes. Each deal needs to make sense but what that means varies based on the exit strategies planned per property.
I rarely directly manage any of my rentals as I have proven that I make more money finding good deals than I do managing the tenants or the property maintenance.
I will continue to grow the portfolio and to focus on value investing. By that I mean finding deals where there is real value at the time of purchase rather than buying with appreciation being the end game.

Hi John,
Thanks for the connection. So, you are from the United Kingdom? I visited London several years back. Truly was a great experience. I can't wait to go back over there and see more of the UK. It must be nice picking up U. S. Real Estate with Pounds. I assume the prices of realty in the U.S. are outstanding with the falling dollar. Just think, the market over here will likely rebound again for great appreciation to benefit your portfolio. I am excited for you. I've been hearing foreclosures are increasing again and the commercial market is about to take a big hit.
You should check out Kansas City right smack dabb in the middle of the U. S. We have a real stable market that makes for a good place to by homes for the long-term and also for fixing up and renting out. We didn't experience as much sub-prime lending here, but we are still pulling the short straw with regards to foreclosures. Seems like we can't escape the mess either, but we are a budding metro. However, we are still much more stable then most other major metropolitans, and we are only likely to get bigger as industry from Mexico begins making inroads into Kansas City as a hub for logistical operations for major corporations. You might do some research on our growth trends. Long-term I would say its a great bet based on employment trends if my International Relations Professor was correct. He's a pretty worldly and intelligent guy, so I think he is probably making a good prediction. Well thanks again for the friendly gesture. Talk to you soon.
